ARCHIVING & PRESERVATION POLICY

Pedagogical Perspective (PedPer)

ISSN: 2822-4841  |  DOI Prefix: 10.29329

Quick Summary

Pedagogical Perspective (PedPer) (eISSN: 2822-4841) is committed to ensuring the long-term accessibility, preservation, and integrity of all published scholarly content. The journal utilises multiple internationally recognised digital preservation services and persistent identification systems to guarantee that published research remains permanently available, discoverable, and citable — even in the event of journal discontinuation, platform failure, or other unforeseen circumstances.

1) Digital Preservation Services

PedPer preserves the full text and metadata of all published articles through the following third-party preservation networks:

Service

Description

Type

LOCKSS

Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe — open-source, distributed digital preservation network operated by Stanford University Libraries. Participating libraries maintain local copies of journal content, ensuring redundancy and long-term access.

Distributed / light archive

CLOCKSS

Controlled LOCKSS — a not-for-profit, community-governed dark archive. Content is preserved in geographically distributed nodes and is triggered for open access only if the original source ceases to be available (trigger event).

Dark archive

PKP PN

PKP Preservation Network — operated by the Public Knowledge Project, specifically designed for OJS-hosted journals. Deposits content automatically into a distributed preservation infrastructure.

Distributed preservation

OJS local archive

PedPer’s own OJS-based server archive, maintained as a primary access point for all published content.

Manifest pages

PedPer’s LOCKSS and CLOCKSS manifest pages are publicly accessible for library verification:

2) Persistent Identifiers (DOI)

PedPer assigns a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to every published article via Crossref. DOIs provide:

  • Persistent identification — a stable, permanent link to the article regardless of changes in URL or hosting infrastructure;
  • Reliable citation — DOIs ensure that citations resolve correctly across databases, indexes, and reference managers;
  • Metadata linkage — DOI records include article metadata (title, authors, abstract, license, references) registered with Crossref, enabling accurate discovery and interoperability.

3) Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH)

PedPer supports the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), enabling libraries, institutional repositories, aggregators, and discovery services worldwide to automatically harvest and display PedPer article metadata.

OAI-PMH endpoint: pedagogicalperspective.com/index.php/pub/oai

This protocol ensures broad discoverability and supports the integration of PedPer content into library catalogues, union databases, and search platforms.

4) Archived Content and Formats

The following content is archived and preserved for each published article:

  • Full-text article (PDF and/or HTML)
  • Article metadata (title, authors, affiliations, abstract, keywords, DOI, references, license)
  • Supplementary files (datasets, appendices, additional tables/figures), where applicable

Archived content represents the Version of Record. Any post-publication corrections (errata, corrigenda) or retraction notices are also archived alongside the original article to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

5) Version of Record Integrity

PedPer treats the published version of each article as the Version of Record (VoR). The VoR is the authoritative, final version that has been peer-reviewed, accepted, and formatted for publication. Once published:

  • The VoR is not altered, replaced, or removed from the archive;
  • Corrections are issued as separate Erratum or Corrigendum notices linked to the original article;
  • Retracted articles remain accessible in the archive with a “RETRACTED” watermark and a linked retraction notice, preserving the transparency of the scholarly record.

For full details, see the Corrections, Retractions & Expressions of Concern Policy.

6) Journal Discontinuation Plan

In the unlikely event that PedPer ceases publication:

  • All published content will remain accessible through the third-party preservation services listed above (LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, PKP PN). These services are specifically designed to provide perpetual access to archived content when the original source is no longer available.
  • CLOCKSS operates as a dark archive with a trigger mechanism: if PedPer’s content becomes unavailable from the original source, CLOCKSS will make the archived content freely available to the public under an open-access license.
  • DOIs registered with Crossref will continue to resolve to the preserved versions of the articles.
  • The publisher will make reasonable efforts to notify authors, readers, and indexing bodies in advance of any planned discontinuation.

7) Author Self-Archiving

In addition to the journal’s institutional preservation efforts, PedPer encourages authors to deposit their published articles (Version of Record) in institutional repositories, subject repositories, and other scholarly platforms. There is no embargo period. For full details on self-archiving rights and conditions, see the Repository Policy.

8) Commitment to Preservation Standards

PedPer’s archiving and preservation practices are aligned with recognised international standards and best practices, including:

  • The Keepers Registry (maintained by ISSN International Centre) — PedPer’s preservation arrangements are registered and verifiable;
  • COPE and Scopus recommendations for digital archiving and content availability;
  • BOAI principles on permanent open-access availability.
