Quick Summary

Pedagogical Perspective (PedPer) (eISSN: 2822-4841) is committed to transparent, independent, and internationally representative editorial governance. This policy describes the composition, roles, selection criteria, term of service, and accountability mechanisms for the journal’s editorial board, in accordance with COPE guidelines and the expectations of international indexing bodies.

1) Editorial Structure

PedPer’s editorial structure comprises the following roles:

  • Editor-in-Chief (EiC) — Provides overall academic leadership, makes final editorial decisions on all manuscripts, ensures compliance with publication ethics, and represents the journal in communications with indexing bodies.
  • Section Editors — Manage the peer review process for manuscripts within their area of expertise, recommend editorial decisions to the EiC, and ensure timely processing.
  • Editorial Board Members — Provide strategic guidance on the journal’s scope and direction, contribute to peer review as needed, and represent the journal within their academic networks.
  • Advisory Board Members (where applicable) — Senior scholars who provide strategic counsel on the journal’s development, international positioning, and policy matters.

The current editorial team is listed on the Editorial Team page.

2) Selection Criteria

Editorial board members are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Academic expertise — Demonstrated scholarly record in education or related fields, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals, research activity, and academic standing.
  • Geographic diversity — PedPer actively seeks representation from multiple countries and regions to ensure a genuinely international editorial perspective. The journal aims for at least 3–5 different countries represented on the editorial board at all times.
  • Institutional diversity — No single institution should dominate the editorial board. PedPer aims for broad institutional representation.
  • Independence — Board members must be free from conflicts of interest with the publisher and must be able to exercise independent editorial judgment.
  • Commitment — Willingness to contribute to peer review, attend editorial meetings (where applicable), and support the journal’s mission.

3) Appointment and Term of Service

Editorial board members are appointed by the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Publisher Representative and existing board members where appropriate.

  • Term: Editorial board members serve a renewable term of 3 years.
  • Renewal: At the end of each term, the EiC reviews the member’s contribution and may invite the member to serve an additional term.
  • Resignation: Members may resign at any time by notifying the EiC in writing.
  • Removal: The EiC may remove a board member who fails to fulfil their responsibilities, engages in ethical misconduct, or has an unresolved conflict of interest. Removal decisions are communicated in writing with a clear justification.

4) Responsibilities of Editorial Board Members

  • Contribute to the journal’s strategic direction by advising on scope, policy, and quality standards
  • Participate in peer review as external reviewers when invited (typically 2–4 reviews per year)
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting qualified reviewers within their academic networks
  • Promote the journal within their institutions and at academic conferences
  • Declare any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from editorial decisions where necessary
  • Adhere to PedPer’s Publication Ethics & Malpractice and Conflicts of Interest (COI) Statement

5) Geographic and Institutional Diversity

PedPer recognises that geographic and institutional diversity of the editorial board is a key criterion for international indexing bodies, including Scopus and Web of Science. The journal is committed to:

  • Actively recruiting board members from underrepresented regions and institutions
  • Monitoring the geographic composition of the board and taking corrective action where necessary
  • Ensuring that no single country accounts for more than 50% of the editorial board
  • Publishing the institutional affiliations and countries of all board members on the Editorial Team page

6) Editorial Independence

The editorial board operates independently of the publisher. Editorial decisions — including acceptance, revision, and rejection of manuscripts — are based solely on scholarly merit, methodological rigor, and ethical compliance. The publisher does not influence or override editorial decisions. This independence is safeguarded in accordance with COPE guidelines and is a fundamental principle of PedPer’s governance.

For details on the relationship between the editorial team and the publisher, see the Publisher & Who We Are page.

7) Editor-in-Chief: Accountability and Succession

The Editor-in-Chief is accountable for all editorial decisions and for the ethical conduct of the journal. In the event that the EiC is unable to fulfil their duties (e.g., due to conflict of interest on a specific manuscript, incapacitation, or resignation):

  • A designated Section Editor or Deputy Editor will assume interim editorial authority for the affected manuscript(s) or for the journal as a whole
  • The Publisher Representative will facilitate the appointment of a new EiC through a transparent process, consulting with the editorial board
  • Continuity of editorial operations will be maintained at all times

8) Transparency

  • The names, institutional affiliations, and countries of all editorial board members are publicly listed on the Editorial Team page
  • Changes to the editorial board (new appointments, departures) are reflected on the website in a timely manner
  • The roles and responsibilities of each editorial position are publicly documented in this policy
