Quick Summary
Pedagogical Perspective (PedPer) (eISSN: 2822-4841) is a fully open-access journal. All published content is freely available online immediately upon publication, without subscription barriers, paywalls, or embargo periods. The journal does not charge any article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, or publication fees. PedPer’s open access policy is aligned with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).
1) Definition of Open Access
PedPer adopts the definition of open access established by the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI): free, immediate, and permanent online access to the full text of published research, enabling any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and reuse the content — without financial, legal, or technical barriers — provided the original work is properly cited and attributed.
This means that PedPer content is available to all readers worldwide — including researchers, educators, practitioners, students, policymakers, and members of the public — at no cost and without requiring registration or institutional affiliation.
2) License
All articles published in PedPer are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Under this license:
- Authors retain copyright of their published work.
- Readers and other researchers may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and reuse the content for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, provided the original work is properly cited.
- The journal is granted the right of first publication.
- No additional permission from the authors or the journal is required for reuse, provided proper attribution is given.
For full details on copyright and licensing terms, see the Copyright & License page.
3) No Fees
PedPer is committed to removing financial barriers to both publishing and reading scholarly research. The journal does not charge:
- Article processing charges (APCs)
- Submission fees
- Review or editorial processing fees
- Page charges or colour figure charges
- Subscription or access fees for readers
All costs of publication are covered by the publisher / supporting institution. For further details, see the Article Processing Charges (APCs) / Fees page.
4) No Embargo
PedPer applies no embargo period. All articles are made freely available online immediately upon publication. There is no delayed access model, and no content is restricted to subscribers or institutional users at any point.
5) Author Rights
Under PedPer’s open access model, authors retain the following rights:
- Full copyright ownership of their published work;
- The right to share, reuse, and build upon their work, subject to the CC BY 4.0 license terms;
- The right to deposit the published version (Version of Record) in institutional or subject repositories without embargo;
- The right to use the published work for personal, educational, or institutional purposes (e.g., inclusion in a thesis, course materials, or presentations).
6) Self-Archiving and Repository Deposit
PedPer encourages authors to deposit their published articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, and other scholarly platforms to maximise discoverability and impact. Authors may deposit:
- Preprints (pre-peer-review version) — at any time, with a note that the work has been submitted to PedPer.
- Accepted manuscripts (post-peer-review, pre-production version) — at any time after acceptance.
- Published version (Version of Record) — immediately upon publication, with no embargo. The deposited version must include the full citation and a link to the published article (DOI).
For full details, see the Repository Policy.
7) Funder Compliance
PedPer’s open access model — immediate gold open access with no embargo, no APCs, and a CC BY 4.0 license — is compatible with the open access mandates of major research funders and funder coalitions, including (but not limited to):
- Plan S / cOAlition S requirements
- European Commission Horizon Europe open access mandates
- National research council and funding body OA policies worldwide
Authors whose funders require specific open access conditions are encouraged to verify compatibility and to contact the editorial office if they have questions.
8) Discoverability and Metadata
To maximise the visibility and impact of open-access content, PedPer ensures that all articles are:
- Assigned a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via Crossref, ensuring persistent identification and reliable linking.
- Indexed and discoverable through major academic databases and search engines (see Abstracting & Indexing).
- Harvestable via OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), enabling libraries and repositories worldwide to collect and display PedPer metadata.
- Available via RSS and Atom feeds for automated content alerts.
9) Long-Term Preservation
PedPer is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of all published content. The journal utilises third-party digital archiving services to ensure that content remains available even in the event of journal discontinuation:
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) — distributed digital preservation network
- CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) — dark archive preservation for long-term access
For full details, see the Archiving / Preservation Policy.
10) Commitment to Open Science
PedPer supports the broader principles of open science, including:
- Open access to research outputs (articles, metadata, references)
- Encouragement of open data sharing (where ethically and legally permissible) through Data Availability Statements
- Transparent editorial and peer review processes (publicly documented policies)
- Commitment to removing barriers to participation in international scholarly communication (no APCs, complimentary language proofreading for accepted manuscripts)
