Pedagogical Perspective (PedPer)
ISSN: 2822-4841 | DOI Prefix: 10.29329
Quick Summary
Pedagogical Perspective (PedPer) (eISSN: 2822-4841) is committed to ensuring that its published content and website are accessible to all users, including persons with disabilities. The journal strives to conform to internationally recognised accessibility standards and continuously works to improve the accessibility of its digital content.
1) Commitment to Accessibility
PedPer is committed to providing equitable access to scholarly research for all readers, including those with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities. The journal aims to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
This commitment reflects PedPer’s broader mission to remove barriers to scholarly communication and to ensure that open access genuinely means universal access.
2) Website Accessibility
PedPer’s website (hosted on OJS — Open Journal Systems) includes the following accessibility features:
- Semantic HTML structure — Headings, lists, and navigation landmarks are used to support screen reader navigation
- Keyboard navigation — All interactive elements (menus, links, forms) are accessible via keyboard
- Text alternatives — Images include descriptive alt text where applicable
- Resizable text — Content can be resized without loss of information or functionality
- Colour contrast — The journal’s visual design aims for sufficient contrast ratios for readability
- Responsive design — The website adapts to different screen sizes and devices
Note: Accessibility is an ongoing process. Some legacy content or third-party components may not yet fully meet all WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria. PedPer is committed to identifying and addressing accessibility gaps on an ongoing basis.
3) Published Content Accessibility
PedPer takes the following steps to improve the accessibility of published articles:
- PDF accessibility — Published articles are provided in PDF format. PedPer encourages authors to use the journal’s manuscript template, which supports structured headings, tables with headers, and descriptive figure captions.
- HTML/XML availability — Where OJS supports it, articles may also be available in HTML or JATS XML format, which provides superior screen reader compatibility compared to PDF.
- Metadata accessibility — All articles include structured metadata (title, authors, abstract, keywords, DOI) that is accessible via OAI-PMH, Crossref, and other discovery services.
- Supplementary files — Authors are encouraged to provide data and supplementary materials in accessible formats (e.g., CSV rather than image-based tables).
4) Author Responsibilities
Authors can contribute to the accessibility of their published work by:
- Using the PedPer manuscript template with structured headings (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.)
- Providing descriptive captions for all tables and figures
- Using clear and logical table structures with row and column headers
- Including alternative text descriptions for images and figures in the manuscript file
- Avoiding the use of colour alone to convey information in figures and charts
- Ensuring that any supplementary files are in accessible, non-proprietary formats where possible
5) Feedback and Reporting
PedPer welcomes feedback on the accessibility of its website and published content. If you encounter an accessibility barrier or have suggestions for improvement, please contact:
info@pedagogicalperspective.com
We aim to respond to accessibility-related feedback within 15 business days and to address reported issues as promptly as possible.
6) Continuous Improvement
PedPer is committed to the ongoing improvement of accessibility. The journal will:
- Periodically review the website and published content against current WCAG standards
- Address accessibility issues reported by users
- Incorporate accessibility considerations into future website updates and OJS upgrades
- Encourage PKP (Public Knowledge Project) to continue improving the accessibility of the OJS platform
- Update this statement as accessibility improvements are implemented
